1 ½ cups of flour

STEP 1: To prepare a traditional cake, you start by beating the butter with the sugar until you get a foamy mixture, which ensures that the cake will be fluffy.
STEP 2: Once you have finished beating the butter with the sugar, start adding the eggs one by one, it is important that they are well integrated as they are incorporated to prevent them from going to the bottom. Then, start incorporating, little by little, the flour that has been previously sifted with the baking powder.
STEP 3: Along with incorporating the flour and eggs, add the milk alternately, add the lemon or orange zest, and the vanilla essence. Continue beating the mixture gently and with encircling movements, until verifying that there are no lumps.
STEP 4: Pour the mixture into a previously buttered mold and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
STEP 5: When approximately 25 minutes have elapsed, check the degree of doneness using a stick that could be a skewer. Put it in the cake, if it comes out clean and dry, it means that it is ready. Put it on a rack to cool. To make it even more delicious, you can decorate it with icing, chocolate, icing sugar, etc.
