Ingredients
3 cups Plain flour / self raising flour
3/4 cup cold grated butter (170g)
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/2 cup finely chopped spring onion or spinach or chives
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
Side note :
If you are using self raising flour just add 1 tsp baking powder.
3/4 cups means 1/4 cup x 3 . Not 3 to 4 cups .
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 190 Degrees Celsius.
2. In a large bowl sift in flour , baking powder, black pepper and salt .
3.Add the cold butter and rub in with your finger tips until you get a sand like texture . Then add cheese , green veggie of your choice and whisk .
4.Add the egg and cold buttermilk then gently mix the wet and dry ingredients together.
5. Transfer the dough on a slightly floured surface. Gently bring it together using your hands and flatten it out.
6. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out the dough.
Slightly brush each dough piece with an egg white .
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown on top .
